Whilst we have modernised River Cottage to give a high level of comfort for our guests, we have not compromised the original character of the cottage, and hope that you will appreciate the rustic features found in this French rural holiday rental home. Original tomettes... floor tiles 300 years old are a good example with a beautiful patina. For this reason, (stairs, stone steps, slopes, low balcony walls and verandah railings etc) we do not allow children under the age of 5 to stay at the cottage.
The cottage is accessed up the rear stone steps past the large dining patio onto the stone balcony. On the stone balcony is an original stone Limousin sink which was used by ancient travellers for washing their hands before entering the almshouse. Off the stone balcony there is a small lobby leading to the main double bedroom which has an ancient fireplace. Notice the cockle shells of St Jacques denoting an official residence of pilgrims on the Compostella trail. The master bedroom has its own door onto the stone balcony and stunning views from the window down to the river. Also accessed from the lobby is the shower room. This is a modern tiled room with shower, wc, bidet and sink. It also has a medieval window opening, kept as it was built in the 16th Century and very atmospheric.
The living kitchen has a sofa, two armchairs, table and chairs as well as modern oak units and all up to date conveniences. There is a large fridge freezer, washing machine, gas oven and hob, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and sink. All crockery and cutlery is provided. As we love to cook, you will find all utensils needed to prepare the local produce of Southern France. We also have a good selection of books, and DVD's. On the other side of the kitchen is the second triple bedroom. (double bed with single bed). A westerly facing wooden verandah is accessed from the kitchen with swing seat, dining table and chairs. From here you will experience the beautiful sunsets of this region.
