Local Area
La Bordeliere is a little hamlet of 4 houses and the local area is very rural. You are in the depths of the countryside, with fantastic views from the terraces. A lane runs past the house, but it is not tarmac but stone. It leads down to a ford and a footbridge over a river from where the cottage gets its name. The river widens into a pond and you can hear the bullfrogs in season. We have seen red squirrels and otters by the house and in the field in front of it. There are many local walking tracks around the area called chemins.
Journet: is the nearest village with a local bar and Depot du Pain, called DOM's, a five minutes walk down the old pilgrim path. (take a short cut to the top of the field and turn left.... watch out for otters!!) Order bread the day before for collection next day. Explore the Lanterns du Mort in the village,...ancient pointed columns dating back to pre-Christianity??.
There are many local walks along old lanes and paths as well as bicycle trails along old railway tracks to various hamlets and villages. You could spend days exploring these.
The nearest large village, La Trimouille is 5 km away with small shops, restaurants, local doctor and two pharmacies. The beautiful town of Montmorillion is 10 minutes drive away and has 4 large supermarkets and a range of shops and restaurants.
You can swim in a local lake called Lac du Mondon, where there is a diving platform, cafe, shady areas, etc. The local Gartempe river has also good swimming areas.
