Welcome, would you like to get away from it all?

We bought River Cottage many years ago to escape the stress of modern day living in a large city. Over the years we have restored and improved this charming and rustic small bastide. We were attracted to the cottage because of the stunning setting next to a ford over a small river. It has beautiful rural views and is very peaceful. The cottage also appealed to us as it had many original features such as oak beams, stone walls and fireplaces. It was also important to us that we could walk to the nearest village and that there was a large town nearby with supermarkets and other shops. Another consideration was our wish to be south of the River Loire to benefit from the hotter weather. The area around Poitiers is where the grey roof slates of Northern Europe are replaced by the terracotta roof tiles of Southern Europe.

We operate a small holiday lettings business which is family run. There are no borrowings on our property and you will be dealing directly with us. This means you will have our home address and telephone number to reassure you of the safety of your booking. We have been successfully renting River Cottage for 6 years, as you can see from the reviews. We also send you your keys direct to your home, well in advance of your booking date. This means you can arrive at any time of the day or night without having to chase up keys locally. This is a great help if for any reason you get delayed. We stay in River Cottage more than twice a year to make sure everything is running well. The outside areas are particularily important to us, as we like to enjoy the stone balcony, veranda and patios in the sun. We also like to read on holiday, so leave a library of books for you to enjoy.

Come and enjoy a holiday at River Cottage..... a special place, at a special price, away from the summer crowds.
